Engineering a digital corporate-onboarding journey for Standard Bank's Mauritius CIB business

Cloud23 engineered an end-to-end digital corporate-onboarding journey for Standard Bank's Mauritius Corporate & Investment Banking business, splitting external application capture from internal processing on a shared data model. The result is a real-time, transparent view of the application pipeline and a reported reduction in processing times. Salesforce Financial Services Cloud and Experience Cloud were the delivery tools; the outcome was a managed onboarding operation.

The challenge

Corporate account onboarding is one of the most demanding journeys in banking. Corporate and investment banking clients are complex legal entities, applications carry substantial documentation, and processing typically involves multiple internal teams before an account can open. When those steps run on paper and email, applications are hard to track and slow to progress.

As part of its wider digital transformation strategy, Standard Bank's Mauritius CIB business set out to digitalise corporate account onboarding end to end — replacing manual application handling with a digital journey that could capture applications cleanly at the front and process them efficiently behind the scenes.

What was at stake

For a corporate and investment bank, onboarding speed directly affects time to revenue: a corporate client cannot transact, deposit or borrow until its accounts are open. Every day an application spends in a queue is a day of delayed business for both bank and client.

Just as important was visibility. Without a single view of the application pipeline, relationship teams could not tell clients where their applications stood, and operations leaders could not see where work was accumulating. Fixing onboarding meant fixing both the journey and the ability to manage it.

The approach

The engineering team split the onboarding journey into two connected parts on a shared platform. Application capture moved to a Salesforce Experience Cloud site — an intuitive, externally accessible interface through which corporate applications could be submitted digitally rather than on paper.

Application processing moved to Salesforce Financial Services Cloud, giving the bank's internal teams a structured workspace in which submitted applications could be reviewed, progressed and tracked through to completion on a single platform.

The solution

The delivered solution engineers application processing on Salesforce Financial Services Cloud behind an Experience Cloud capture site with an intuitive user interface. Applications submitted through the Experience site flow directly into Financial Services Cloud, where the bank's onboarding teams work them through the approval process.

Because capture and processing sit on one platform, every application is visible from submission onwards. The bank gains a real-time, transparent view of the application pipeline — who has applied, where each application stands and where attention is needed.

The underlying architecture

The solution follows an established platform pattern for regulated onboarding: an Experience Cloud site provides the externally facing digital front door, while Financial Services Cloud provides the internal system of engagement. Both run on the same Salesforce platform and share a single data model, so information captured from applicants lands directly in the records that internal teams work from — with no re-keying and no synchronisation layer between front and back office.

Experience Cloud handles the applicant-facing experience: authenticated access, guided forms and a branded interface tailored to the onboarding journey. Financial Services Cloud contributes its financial-services data model — clients, relationships and financial accounts — together with the workflow, assignment and tracking capabilities that let a bank run onboarding as a managed pipeline rather than an inbox.

This shared-platform design is what makes real-time pipeline transparency possible: because every application is a record on one platform from the moment it is captured, status, ownership and ageing can be reported live rather than reconstructed from separate systems.

Outcomes

The bank reports a significant reduction in application processing times following the move from manual handling to the digital journey. This figure is unquantified in the source material and is pending verification.

Beyond speed, the programme gave the bank a real-time and transparent view of its application pipeline — a capability it did not have when applications moved through manual channels.

The bank attributes increased agility, heightened customer satisfaction and optimised operational efficiency to the new onboarding capability.

What this programme illustrates

  • Separating application capture from application processing — while keeping both on one platform — lets a bank improve the client-facing journey and the internal operation in a single programme.
  • Pipeline transparency is an outcome in its own right: even before cycle times fall, a real-time view of where every application stands changes how onboarding is managed.
  • Corporate onboarding digitalisation works best when framed within a wider digital transformation strategy, so the onboarding journey is built as a reusable pattern rather than a one-off fix.
